EN124: PRODUCT SELECTION

EN 124 divides manhole cover and drainage gratings into six classes as follows: A15, B125, C250, D400, E600, F900. The classification denotes the test load expressed in kN. For example Class D400 denotes a product that complies with test load of 400kN. The appropriate class of manhole top or gully top to be used depends on the place of installation within the carriageway.

The various places of installation within the carriageway have been divided into groups as listed below. A guide as to which class of manhole top or gully top should be used is listed in brackets beside each group. A typical highway cross section is also illustrated below showing the location of some of the installation groups.

It should be noted that the selection of the appropriate class is the responsibility of the designer. Where there is any doubt the higher class should be selected. Please call our sales team at Cavanagh if you need any assistance on product selection.

Group 5 (min class E600)
